Cooperation with international metrology organizations
The Metre Convention and the CIPM MRA
Since Russia signed the Metre Convention in 1875, VNIIM has been actively involved in the work of:
VNIIM is a member of 8 of 10 Consultative Committees:
- Electricity and Magnetism (CCEM);
- Thermometry (CCT);
- By length (CCL);
- By ionizing radiation (CCL, through membership in Rosstandart);
- By mass and related quantities (CCM);
- By quantity of substance, metrology in chemistry and biology (CCQM);
- By acoustics, ultrasound, and vibration (CCAUV);
- By base units (CCU, through membership in Rosstandart);
VNIIM is also an observer institute of the CIPM Forum on Digitalization and Metrology (FORUM MD) and participates in the Forum's task forces and working groups. 
VNIIM is also a designated institute from the Russian Federation under the Arrangement on the Mutual Recognition of Measurement Standards and Calibration and Measurement Certificates Issued by National Metrology Institutes (CIPM MRA) since its signature on October 14, 1999.
The primary mechanism for implementing the CIPM MRA is participation in comparisons organized within the framework of the QC and RMO. Below is a graph of the total number of VNIIM comparisons registered in the BIPM Key Comparison Database KCDB compared to other designated institutes in the Russian Federation:
The results of 319 comparisons have already been completed and published.
The work of the CIPM MRA results in the internationally recognized calibration and measurement capabilities (CMCs) of its member countries.

International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML, OIML)
In the area of legal metrology, VNIIM actively participates in the work of OIML technical committees and subcommittees. VNIIM specialists chair the secretariats of eight subcommittees and one committee of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML):

- ТК7/ПК1 Length measuring equipment;
- ТК9/ПК4 Density measurements;
- ТК11/ПК1 Resistance thermometers;
- ТК11/ПК3 Radiation thermometers;
- ТК17 Measuring instruments in the field of physical chemistry;
- ТК17/ПК2 Saccharimetry;
- ТК17/ПК4 Conductometry;
- ТК17/ПК6 Gas analysis.
