Operating principle:

  • ГЭТ 2-2021 is based on a method for reproducing units of length using frequency-stabilized laser sources in accordance with the Recommendations of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). The unit of length is transmitted using four laser interference comparators.

Composition of the standard:

ГЭТ 2-2021 consists of a set of the following technical means and auxiliary devices:

  • The source of reference radiation is a He-Ne/I2 laser stabilized along the saturated absorption line in molecular iodine 127, No. 02;
  • The transportable reference radiation source is a He-Ne/I2 laser, stabilized along the saturated absorption line in molecular iodine 127, No. 287;
  • The source of reference radiation is an Nd:YAG laser stabilized along the saturated absorption line in molecular iodine 127, No. 01;
  • A set of equipment for measuring the frequency (wavelength in a vacuum) of lasers in the wavelength range from 500 to 1050 nm, No. FC1500/234-E;
  • Hydrogen frequency and time standard Ч1-1003М, No. 071 18;
  • Installation for measuring the frequency difference of laser radiation sources, No. 02U;
  • Universal interference meter comparator, No. 01-2009;
  • Laser interference comparator for length measurements in the submicron and nanorange, No. 01-2010;
  • Heterodyne interferometer, No. 02-2009;
  • Thirty-meter laser interference comparator, No. 01-2008.

Verification diagram:

  • ГЭТ 2-2021 heads the State Verification Scheme for length measuring instruments in the range from 1 10^-9 to 100 m and wavelengths in the range from 0.2 to 50 µm, approved by the Order of Rosstandart dated 29.12.2018 № 2840.

Scope of application:

Fundamental and applied scientific research, the most important branches of national industry – aerospace, energy, defense, microelectronics and mechanical engineering.

Results of applying the standard:

ГЭТ 2-2021 provides reproduction of the unit of length at a wavelength of 633 nm with an unexcluded systematic error of 1.9∙10-12 and a standard deviation of 1.6∙10-12, and at a wavelength of 532 nm – with an unexcluded systematic error of 1.6∙10-12 and a standard deviation of 1.3∙10-12, and in terms of its metrological characteristics GET 2 is not inferior to the best foreign analogues.

ГЭТ 2-2021 ensures the presence of the Russian Federation in the international database of measuring and calibration capabilities of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.

The standard is used to transfer the unit of length to laser radiation sources and laser interference systems, which are used in such priority areas as the creation of advanced types of weapons, military and special equipment, transport and space systems, as well as in fundamental scientific research.

The transfer of the unit of length to the State secondary and working standards in accordance with the State verification scheme has been ensured.

In addition, the standard transfers the unit of length to measuring instruments and installations from the composition of the State Primary Standards of Derived Units of Quantities.

Unique technical installations as part of the standard:

Reproduction of the unit of length at a wavelength of 633 nm is achieved using a unique reference radiation source – a He-Ne/I2 laser stabilized along the saturated absorption line of molecular iodine 127, developed by staff at the Geometric Measurements Department of the D.I. Mendeleev All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Metrology. Reproduction of the unit of length at a wavelength of 532 nm is achieved using a reference radiation source – an Nd:YAG laser stabilized along the saturated absorption line of molecular iodine 127, developed by staff at the Institute of Laser Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

To transfer a unit of length to stabilized laser radiation sources, the standard includes a set of equipment for measuring frequency (wavelength in a vacuum) in the wavelength range from 500 to 1050 nm based on an optical frequency comb, for the development of which John Hall and Theodore Hensch received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2005.

By means of the hydrogen standard of frequency and time Ч1-1003М the connection between the State primary standard of the unit of length - meter GET 2-2021 and the State primary standard of units of time, frequency and national time scale ГЭТ 1-2022 was achieved.
